Dia De Los Muertos

We invite you to attend our very special, Dia de los Muertos bi-lingual virtual gathering. This will be a powerful and participatory Day of Remembrance based on ancient teachings and spirituality behind this celebration of death, life, and the worlds beyond. For three days every year, Mexicans and Mexican Americans gather for Dia de los Muertos. The people gather in cemeteries and homes to remember their deceased loved ones.

The last of those days, November 2, falls on the traditional Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed - All Souls Day. Both observances remember the dead. All Souls remembers and prays for "all the faithful departed"; Dia de los Muertos welcomes the return of the departed for a yearly family visit.

The Dia de Los Muertos celebrations allowed Catholic tradition to embrace and include indigenous traditions whose roots are deep in prehistory -- in the Americas, in Europe and around the world.

Dia de los Muertos taps into a timeless and worldwide desire to make peace with death and embrace how best to live. Dia de los Muertos obscure or hide the fact that its roots are deep and long preceded the current expressions. To learn about and experience this powerful tradition is to dignify the Indigenous People who have practiced this celebration as a way of life, and it will create a special opportunity for you to reflect on your own traditions, beliefs, and practices around death and times of transition.
